Trayvon Martin was a young African-American man fatally shot in Sanford, Florida. A neighborhood watch volunteer was charged with Martin’s death. This case raised many questions in the minds of Americans. Some of these questions were based on fact or a lack thereof and others were based on a gut reaction from personal experience or opinion. Why did this case receive so much attention, especially while other similar cases never got so much as a mention? Why did this case seem to create a divide between black and white Americans?
