The following is an essay on the famous “Give what is Caesar’s to Caesar” passage from Matthew. Google didn’t recognize my Greek font and I’m lazy, so please ignore the random, unintelligible word and excuse the messy format.

Nice little work you have here. Good job. So are there two “spheres” or is this just the wrong place to get biblical support for them?
In short, I don’t see much support for two spheres. I think the NT interprets the different spheres of responsibility always in terms of Christ’s lordship. So for Paul and Peter, slaves can work hard for their masters not because that’s their duty in that sphere, but because Christ is their true lord even in that sphere.
This is the best short paper on Matthew 22:15-22 I’ve read. I also share most of Yoder and Wright’s perspective on this passage, and I consider this work to be a nicely balanced work, big enough to examine the many facets of this passage, but not too daunting to discourage many from reading it.
