The Institute for Cultural Engagement, an official program of Multnomah University and Biblical Seminary
Author: Beyth Hogue Greenetz
As the Administrative Coordinator for New Wine, Beyth has the unique privilege of having found the “sweet spot” where her skills and passions meet. She brings a history of event planning, an educational background in both theology and sociology, a fascinated interest in culture, and a restless heart for community.
The privilege of being kingdom-bearers is perhaps the most humbling and transformative opportunity in our Christian lives. Beyth praises God for the divine reality he manifests through New Wine and she eagerly awaits what he will reveal in the midst of our usually-willing hearts.
Outside of talking theology, Beyth loves to travel and see the way life is lived outside of Portland’s trendy enclave. But her heart always brings her happily back to Portland, yearning for a good cup of coffee and the embrace of loving community.
We’re pleased to share this great article about the work of Dr. Michael Tso, who serves as a Fellow with New Wine. Dr. Tso’s work at His Mansion Ministries has New Wine’s theology of cultural engagement written all over it. We’re blessed to be continually influenced by Dr. Tso and to be acknowledged as a catalyst in his theological development.
At Multnomah’s Spring Thaw event, authors Dan Kimball, Dr. Paul Louis Metzger, Dr. Rick McKinley, and Dr. Rob Hildebrand joined a roundtable discussion moderated by Dr. Robert Redman. Click below to listen!
William F. Storrar, Peter J. Casarella, and Paul Louis Metzger at the book launch for their new volume "A World for All?:Global Civil Society in Political Theory and Trinitarian Theology" at DePaul University's World Catholicism Week on April 13, 2011
This has been a prolific year for Dr. Metzger! In addition to other recent releases (here and here), A World for All?: Global Civil Society in Political Theory and Trinitarian Theology is a new volume co-edited by Dr. Paul Louis Metzger, Dr. William F. Storrar, and Dr. Peter J. Casarella.
This book reflects on globalization, ethics, and religion, social theorists and theologians consider answers to this pivotal question. In their ecumenical, interdisciplinary dialogue, capped off by five local case studies from around the world, they contemplate a globally inclusive social vision unbounded by national and ethnic borders and examine the ongoing relationship between civil society and the church that worships a Trinitarian God.
Contributors include Daniela C. Augustine, Alexander Broadie, J. Kameron Carter, Peter J. Casarella, William J. Danaher, Kimberly Hutchings, Kristen Deede Johnson, John Keane, Nico Koopman, Christoffel Lombard, Paul Louis Metzger, Petr Pokorny, J. Jayakiran Sebastian, Rudolf von Sinner, Dirkie Smit, Max L. Stackhouse, and William F. Storrar.
In January, Dr. Paul Louis Metzger was invited to speak at Mt. Angel Seminary during their Christian Unity Week. The Mt. Angel students, staff, and faculty were wonderfully welcoming hosts and engaging participants. See the video of Dr. Metzger’s talk below:
Dr. Paul Louis Metzger was interviewed on April 17, 2011 on Amplify, a radio program hosted by Catholic Priest Fr. Ron Lengwin. Dr. Metzger and Fr. Lengwin discussed The Gospel of John: When Love Comes to Town. Fr. Lengwin was a gracious and engaging interviewer. Well worth the listen!
